Learning through our senses

Last week in the Annexe, the children have done lots of messy play! First, we started off with some cling film painting. The children really enjoyed exploring the use of cling film using their hands to move the paint around and mix together the different colours. The children have also done some name painting. The adults used masking tape to carve out their names and then the children painted over the top.

In the middle of the week, we got creative with some shaving foam and flour in the Annexe. We used different powered paints to mix together with the flour, making lots of different colours. The children really enjoyed getting creative and watching the different colours form.

Later in the week, the children started exploring the different natures. The Annexe went for a walk around the nursery and the children loved looking at all the flowers and also picking up different size sticks. We then went down to the house on the front garden. The children loved looking the puddles and definitely the mud!

On Friday we decided to bring the beach to nursery! The children loved exploring the texture of the sand and the water, creating sandcastles and obviously splashing around in the water!

Hope you had a great weekend!

Last week in Busy Birds, the children have been creative learners!

Busy Birds have been doing different kinds of painting but our favourite by far was string painting. All the children showed great patience waiting for their turn and a couple children even let their friends go first. They then listened really well as they were told how to use the string to create a variety of marks. The string painting came out very well and the children created some wonderful works of art.

Busy Birds have also continued to foster an interest in books through encouraging independence when looking at books and also having some quieter moments in our den. A big advantage of storytelling is that listening to stories enhances a child’s vocabulary, storytelling is also a very interactive activity. As a story progresses and develops, children will begin to ask questions, so this makes story time a really great learning opportunity.

In Busy Birds last week, we also used the weather to our advantage and made some pin wheels with Serena! This gave the children a good opportunity to learn about weather, and how the wind works.

Finally, Busy Birds have continued to build bonds with their peers and we have got to witness the beginnings of some lovely friendships.

Have a lovely week!

Last week has been a very fun week in Preschool.

Preschool have been given some tadpoles and the children enjoyed looking at them and observing the changes that they go through. The children looked at the life cycle of a frog, cutting out the pictures and sticking them in the order they think they went in.

Preschool also had a party for one of our children as it was their birthday. The children loved celebrating with their friend. They had cupcakes, balloons, party hats and did lots of dancing!

The children made pancakes on pancake day (lots of them!). They helped to make the mixture, combing all the ingredients to make the batter. This helps with control when pouring. The children then used their cutting skills to cut up different bits of fruit, pineapple, blueberries, banana and lemon lots of different things to taste.

Preschool then did a bit of storytelling of some well-known fairy tales - Jack and the Beanstalk and Three Little Pigs. This inspired the children to made up their own story about dinosaurs, volcanoes, and lava!

The children used some string and cones to make a web! They then had to use their problem solving to get to the other side of the room going under and over but not touching the string. It was a great challenge and the children loved getting involved! To continue this, Preschool also made playdough and made spider webs and spiders.

Have a great week!
