The Annexe were very busy last week!
The children have been very busy doing lots of creative artwork. They started their Easter craft and the children have loved being independent on how they want to decorate! We have also been doing some pencil drawing practising our Palmer grasps and for the older children tripod grip. One little boy concentrated for so long I think he forgot he was outside!
The babies have been practising their sharing and have also been using the sign please or saying "ta" while holding the toys out passing them to their friends.
The children have also been practising their climbing and helping their younger friends to climb up as well, they have all been sat together bouncing up and down laughing lots!
Have a lovely week.
Last week in Busy Birds, the children have been learning about how things work.
Through the week the children have been exploring toys that require thinking to work. We broke out a jack in the box which required the children to do some thinking to try and figure out which way to turn the handle to make the jack pop out of the box. The children listened really well to Sarah as she explained how to do this and then each child had a turn, it was a bit of a lesson but eventually everyone got to see Jack pop up! This activity was a great chance for the children to practice sharing and turn taking as well.
Last week in Busy Birds, the children have also taken some time to practice moving in different ways, from climbing to jumping and even a bit of balancing to help build up our core strength! Core strength is the development of the torso muscles that stabilize, align, and move the body. Poor core strength can cause poor posture which can also affect gross motor and fine motor skills. Building strong core strength is like building a strong foundation for your child.
Finally, Busy Birds have been practicing drawing simple shapes and holding their pencils in a more tripod like grip.
Hope everyone had a lovely weekend!
Last week in Preschool, the children have been making lots of Easter craft (yes, it’s Easter already!), using there cutting skills to cut out the eggs and then using their mark making and creativity to decorate them.
The children made some Rocky Road with Robbie, which they were very excited about and also enjoyed eating it! This then led to us making more fairy cakes the following day (although we ran out of cupcake cases so made a big cake).
Preschool have also been working on sharing and taking turns playing lots of different games, so the children learn to wait patiently for their turn.
The children have been practicing their jumping skills making sure they are bending their knees when jumping and landing appropriately. This led to the children then jumping off the benches and wooden blocks in the garden. The children also spent some time climbing on the climbing drome in the front garden. This helps build their physical strength and gross motor skills, it also allows them to risk assess which is an important life skill to have. This also helps children to problem solve and to develop their critical thinking skills when discovering different routes to climb.
Have a great week!
