Parent Partnership
We encourage full parental involvement throughout your child’s time with us at Nursery, welcoming any questions or ideas.
Communication plays a vital role in maintaining our high standards of care and our staff will always be available to give you feedback about your child’s day. The younger children in the baby and toddler groups will receive a home book sent home each day to inform you of the day’s activities.
We produce monthly newsletters for parents that are emailed out or accessible via this website to keep you posted on nursery events and current news and updates.
Each child will also have an acheivement book, where we hope staff and parents will work together to collect evidence of children's interests and development levels to help us set next steps in their development. These books can then be shared with schools and other settings the child may attend and kept as wonderful treasured
memories.
To ensure you have the opportunity to talk with your key person about your child's time at nursery in more detail we arrange parent's evenings usually twice a year where you can discuss your child's progress and next steps together.
We also arrange social events throughout the year so that as a family you can spend some time in the setting and with the team. For example we hold an annual summer fete and Fireworks display.
The Early Years Foundation Stage
We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage framework across the entire setting. This is mandatory for all early years providers to follow and continues through until the end of reception year at school. Whilst your child is here with us at Munchkins we use their Achievement book to record developments and achievements made so that we can monitor their progress.
The main principles behind the EYFS are grouped into four themes:
The six areas of learning and development that we follow to monitor and record every child to ensure them the best start in life are:
In addition to the curriculum the Pre-School children also take part in fortnightly French sessions provided by a qualified French tutor. The children really enjoy doing these activities whilst also benefiting from learning a new language.
Outings and Events
To extend on the children's learning experiences we try to offer variety in their day.
We occasionally arrange outings off site into the local community like visits to the quay, park, library. These visits are always risk assessed prior to them taking place and we maintain a ratio of one adult to every two children.
We like to arrange for visitors from the community to also come into the nursery to share new experienes with the
children. For example, during a Superheroes week we had two police officers come to talk to the children about the work they do, we had a visit from a dental hygientist who talked to the children about how to care for their teeth and we had some eggs arrive from a farm which the children watched hatch into little chicks and then they cared for them until they were two weeks old.
We also enjoy planning fund raising events like annual toddle waddles and we celebrate events that fit in with current happenings, for instance the royal wedding where the children came to nursery in charecter and re-enacted the day.
Nurserycam
We believe we are currently the only nursery in the southwest with this facility. It enables you to view your child throughout the day while they are with us. It offers peace of mind if you are understandably anxious about leaving your child possibly for the first time or if you just like to see what they get up to during their time at nursery.
