Meet the staff

In order to maintain our outstanding care, we employ those who hold the same core belief – To be the number one nursery in Exeter where children develop and learn through play.

As a nursery, we are legally bound to adhere to Ofsted’s requirements in terms of staff qualifications. We are extremely proud that within Munchkins Day Nursery we have 4 Early Years Teacher’s and 2 graduates – this is above and beyond the expectation set out by Ofsted. In addition to this, we actively encourage our staff to improve their knowledge and understanding around childcare meaning that we constantly have employees who are studying for further qualifications.

Graham Bryant Graham (Paul) Bryant - Company Director/Early Years Teacher, Preschool

After graduating University with a BA Hons in International Marketing and Management, my brother and I decided to open a Nursery in 2005 and Munchkins Day Nursery was born! When we expanded into 3 buildings, I realised I needed to understand a lot more about what the staff expectations were and so I became an Early Years Teacher in 2012.

I now split my time between the Management Office and Preschool, although my true passion lies with the latter! It’s an amazing experience to watch the children develop and know that we have given them the best possible start in life.

mary copy  Mary Richards - Manager

I am an Early Years Teacher and have been involved with this age group of children for over 20 years - both running my own setting and running training to help other professionals be the best they can be in their field.

I first came across Munchkins Day Nursery when I met owner Graham Bryant when he was studying for his Early Years Teacher qualification - I was his Tutor and Mentor. I have been actively involved with the setting over the last year, offering support and training to staff in areas such as Behaviour Management, Early Literacy and Mathematical activities and various Special Educational needs.

I am passionate about effective interactions between staff and children and having spent time in Denmark learning about their early years offer, I am also a great advocate of outside learning.

I am excited to have the opportunity to lead the Munchkins team as their new Manager and look forward to meeting more of the setting’s parents in the months to come.

I have been studying and working within early years for 10 years now and love that I still get to learn every day. I have a degree in Early Childhood Studies BA(Hons) and a BTEC in Early years. I started at Munchkins running the baby unit which I absolutely loved, then after 2 years I moved over to run the Pre-school unit. Three year olds were a great challenge for me, every day was different and I found that age group fantastic to work with. I am now Deputy Manager and SENCO (Special Educational Needs Co-Ordinator) for the Nursery.

Heidi  Heidi Carlyon – Deputy Manager

I have worked at Munchkins for over 4 years. Every day is so different and I enjoy supporting the children and the staff. I have 26 years experience in childcare and have worked at Primary schools, Pre-schools and a company who supported people with learning disabilities.

I have a Level 3 Diploma in Pre-school Practice, Level 3 (Distinction) in Special Educational Needs, Level 2 (Merit) in Child Safeguarding and have training experience in Epilepsy. I have been on courses such as Child Protection, First Aid Health and Safety, British Sign Language and many more. I am also a Level 1 FA Coach, Welfare Officer and Safeguarding Officer for Devon FA and have a disabled Footballer’s Award for Devon FA. I volunteer for Cancer Research and over the years have raised a lot of money for different charities.
